OCASI Professional Education and Training Project (PET) provides financial support to frontline settlement service providers to assist with organizational capacity building.

Under the PET project, assistance is available to frontline staff working in organizations funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration (MCI), to enhance their skills and share knowledge through individual courses.

Who can apply?

Individual: Position must be funded by IRCC and/or MCI. Depending on the size of the agency, PET will approve up to 4 people per agency. If eligible, you can apply for funds to take courses at any institutions of your choice, and will be reimbursed up to $750 per fiscal year, (April 1-March 31).

Note: The Employment Letter must demonstrate a direct connection between the competencies required to effectively do the job and the course(s) chosen.

Funding is available to organizations for professional development through in-house group training to improve settlement services.

The Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants (OCASI) offers these free online courses to help you enhance your skills in serving newcomers to Ontario.

Step 1 - Create an Account

• Click the 'Create new Account' button at the bottom of the main login page to fill out the New Account form with your details.

Step 2 - Confirm your Account

• The system will generate an email immediately to the email address you provide.(Please check your spam if you do not receive an email.)
• Read your email, and click on the web link it contains to confirm your account.

Step 3 - You will now be logged in

• You can now access the full course listing. From now on you will only need to enter your username and password (in the form on this page and the front of this site) to log in and access any course you have enrolled in or would like to enroll in.

Once you have logged in, you can enroll in any self-directed course. Click on the Self-Directed Courses Block – you will see

By clicking on the arrow beside any of the categories you will see all the courses for that section or click on Expand all on the right side of your screen to see all the courses available to you

Once you have chosen your course – Click on the button Click to go to the enrollment page

then click enrol me

All self-directed courses have a 45-day enrollment period. After that period, you will no longer have access to your course records. If you need a record, keep track of your completed courses and save or print your certificates of completion within that timeframe.

Facilitated Courses have a trainer who facilitates the course, activities and discussion areas.

These courses you will see advertised in the course Catalogue or added to the site announcements at the bottom of this screen to enrol.

Once you log-in, go to the top right corner of the screen and click on My courses

A drop down will appear with a list of all the courses you are currently enrolled in.

You can access your Profile by clicking the drop-down arrow by your name on the right side of the screen.

You can edit your profile or see any posts you have added as well as much more information

The site can alert you when you have new messages from your Facilitator and other participants. You can receive alerts about new forum posts or graded assignments and more.

You can receive these alerts via email or pop up, and you can control how you receive them from Preferences / Message preferences in the user menu.
